Avian intelligence, particularly in corvids (crows, ravens, jays) and parrots has recently been recognized as rivalling that of primates, defying the ‘birdbrain’ stereotype. Birds exhibit advanced cognitive abilities, including complex tool use, casual reasoning, self-awareness and social cognition. Join Birdlife Australia volunteers to discuss the different types of avian intelligence and how they can achieve these advanced cognitive skills despite having smaller brains than primates.
